While I was on the retreat Mike went exploring and discovered the problem was way worse than we thought. It was the entire wall behind the sink vanity, the toilet, and the tub. The floor tiles all around the wall also were moldy... like dirt. Wood was crumbling. He was going to get right to work and have everything done before I got home. I encouraged him to just do what needed to be done (get the mold out of there) and at least have the bathtub working. I was hoping I could be around to make some decisions.
While on the retreat someone suggested we contact our insurance company to see if they covered mold issues. Praise God they do!!! We won't be paying for anything in our bathroom.
We only have one full bath in the entire house so any construction has a big impact on us. Thankfully we are able to get baths (which I HATE- I'm a shower gal) but there is no toilet or sink in the full bath. Any time- day or night- that someone has to "use it" we have to go downstairs to the half bath. At least it's good exercise. What would we have done if Mike hadn't added that bathroom a few years ago??
Mike is doing all the work so the process is slower than we'd like. Working full time and then committing ourselves to so many things on the weekend can make it impossible to make much headway. Hopefully in the next month it will all be done. I feel like even when I clean my house is still a mess.
While we are waiting to finish up here are a few pics... a sneak peak...
Hopefully I'll post the finished product in a few weeks...

Could this be a cause to your terrible headaches? How exciting for the blessing of a new bathroom!
I'm so glad you found the problem. Mold is awful to deal with. It's a blessing that your insurance is covering it and that Mike is able to do the work himself! I hope it gets done even sooner than you expect!
