I must start off by saying that I generally am not interested in science and the only bad grades I got in college were in Earth & Space Science & Psychology. Not my faves. HOWEVER.... I really, REALLY enjoyed this dissection a lot. :)
This is what came in our kit- the pellet, tongs, a stick, & directions. The directions/information included spaces to answer questions about our pellet & then a chart to compare the bones we found so we might be able to decide what creature we found inside.
Measurements of the pellet:
Abigail smelling it (that was one of the questions) She said it smelled like "hermit crab food." lol
We must wear gloves. I wasn't thinking about gloves for the kids and so they had to wear my disposable cake gloves. Kind of big.
Abigail goes first
We made a plate for the bones.
Abigail finding something.
Ethan's turn.
Forgot to take a pic of Blake doing his but he found this skull. :)
Even Ali got in on the "fun."
Of course I had to give it a try also.
Another skull found by Ethan. Not in as good of shape as Blake's was but I liked the teeth on this one.
LOTS of bones... and we weren't even done yet.
Had to put it away before we had a chance to "put it back together" because I couldn't have this laying around while I made a cake. Saving the bones in this old jar until this week when we get out our chart and try to put it back together.
I highly recommend this to EVERYONE!!! Even if you aren't studying this right now it is still fun AND educational. :) Abigail loved it so much she's trying to decide whether to buy another hermit crab or buy an owl pellet. lol. I am trying to encourage her to not buy an owl pellet cause once you are done with it then it's garbage. My kit was only $4.50 but you may be able to find it cheaper. SUPER FAST shipping. Let me know if you are interested and I'll tell you where I got mine.

So cool - my mom did this one time with her 5th grade class, and I thought it was amazing! Have a happy holiday!
Now that I've seen the photos, I want to do this even less. Haha! Lukas would probably enjoy it, but he would refuse to touch it, and Ava would think it was super gross. Even so, it looks like a great learning experience!
that looks great. i think my mom (who is a bird watcher) would love doing this with the grandkids. where did you order it from?
I love this!! Way cool!!
